A soft embrace…

Hello and welcome to my snippet!

I was thinking about sharing more from Holiday Weekend because the cover reveal is next Friday and I’m getting excited about its release. But then yesterday Torque was featured on Megan Derr’s “Books I’m Thankful For” spot on ARe, which basically rendered me speechless for half the day (I was able to say thank you :)). So before I dive in to my final proof for HW, here are six sentences from Torque.

This snippet takes place the day after a violent incident at Bell’s Wrecking Yard, where the story is mainly set. Scotty is watching, but Mick and Mercy don’t know that. I could go on and on, talking about this story and the characters, but it’s not strictly necessary to enjoy this snippet.

Scotty could’ve sworn Mick’s arms shook while he wrapped them around Mercy. She did that thing she does, stepped into the hug so you could feel how soft she was, and Mick’s eyes fell closed. The hug didn’t last long, but long enough. Mercy was a lot softer than she looked. If the blonde woman was Mick’s type, he liked that kind of soft, and his face while he had Mercy in his arms said he did. That was a sight Scotty wouldn’t have wanted to miss. He didn’t go around thinking about sex much, but watching Mick and Mercy together made him wonder what it would be like to have them both in his bed at the same time.

A confident little snippet…

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagHello and welcome to my snippet!

This weekend I’m ticking things off my author To Do list and it feels great! One of the things I’ve done is to start a newsletter. The first edition will be going out on the 16th. If you’re interested, I’ve dropped a subscription link at the end of this post.

This snippet is from Holiday Weekend, which will be released on Dec. 16th. Newsletter subscribers will get a sneak peek at the cover, which is another L.C. Chase masterpiece. For now, here are six sentences from Ryan’s Halloween date.

I’m not a bad dancer, but the way Glenn moved would’ve made me jealous if I weren’t so busy drooling.

Glenn danced with confidence, as though he knew the steps. It took me half the song to figure out that he didn’t. Glenn hadn’t learned every step, but he was still dancing with the assurance of someone who had practiced every day for weeks. I laughed out loud as my own tentative steps grew sure. That kind of poise was contagious and even sexier than I would’ve guessed.

A snippet for Asexual Awareness Week!

aceflagHello and welcome to my snippet!

This is Asexual Awareness Week so I’m snippetting from Torque my bi/ace/trans poly love story. Mick and Mercy are discussing why Scotty stayed in the kitchen when they retreated into the bedroom.

“Hold on a second.” Mick stepped back and pushed his jeans down. He realized he still had his boots on and sat bare-assed on the bed to pull them off. He couldn’t quite look at Mercy as he tried to frame the questions in his mind. “He practically jumped me that first time…and this week. I don’t—”

“Like I said, you’re one of his exceptions. So am I. He’s never had much of a sex drive, but it flares. This past week was one helluva flare, and it was great. But if it’s over, then we have to respect it if he’d rather cook than fuck.”

Thanks for reading!

I really have to make a Rainbow Snippets logo with the ace flag, and a few others, but it’s late and i have to get up early tomorrow. Have a lovely weekend!

Torque, my most unconventional love story yet

Torque Cover

This post about my Bi/Ace/Trans poly love story, Torque, first appeared on Elin Gregory’s blog. You can see the original (and her lovely blog) here.

Torque is a ménage but it’s a little different than most of the poly Romances I’ve read. I’ve read MMM, MMF, and FMF, but the books I’ve found have featured three (or more!) cisgender players. Torque is MMF with a bisexual man (Mick), a man on the ace spectrum (Scotty), and a trans woman (Mercy).

I didn’t set out to write this exact story. Torque started out as Mick’s story. I liked the idea of a mechanic and a welder getting down and dirty together but had no idea Mercy would drive her truck into a scene and become such an important character. In fact, pretty much everything that happens in her first scene surprised me. I love it when that happens!

However. My first impulse was to force the story back in the direction I originally thought it would go—Mick and Scotty finding their Happily Ever After with each other. Except once I got to know those two I realized how difficult that would be. Neither of them had ever been in a real relationship and neither are big talkers. If I’d left them to their own devices they might still be circling each other trying to figure things out. Or worse, they easily could have butted heads enough to set Mick back on the road. As much as I wanted it to be true, Mick and Scotty didn’t make a believable couple on their own.

Once I got that far I considered giving Mercy some POV time, letting her have her say on the page. Mercy is such a charismatic character she could have easily taken over the story (and Scotty had already come close to doing that). I love Mercy, but had to consider whether putting readers inside her head would make Torque a little too different for many LGBTQ+ Romance readers. I love pushing boundaries with my fiction but there’s no value in that if nobody is interested in reading the stories once they’re written. My incredible editor helped me find a middle ground—at least I think so! I’m anxious to find out what readers think, so if you take a chance on this unconventional ménage I hope you’ll let me know!

(ETA: And if you’d like to work with a crackin’ editor, she’s available freelance. I can hook you up. :))

Torque CoverSometimes letting things get complicated is the best way to figure it all out.

Mick Randall is on the run, from the biker culture he grew up in and his impossible vision of love. Alaska should be far enough to escape his old life—until he rolls into a wrecking yard and gets lost in a pair of pale, bottle-green eyes.

Scotty Bell has spent years learning to channel his fiery temper into the heat of a welding torch. His sexual heat has always been slower to ignite, but one look at Mick rouses confusion alongside desire. In all his life, he’s only been attracted to one other person—his best friend, Mercy Taylor.

Mick lands a temporary job at the yard, and finds an uneasy crash pad at Scotty’s place…where the ragged ends of his emotions get tangled up in Scotty and Mercy’s relationship.

But when Mick hears a Harley engine from his past bearing down on him, his first instinct is to go back to the half-life he’d been living. Lest his secrets destroy the only two people who’ve ever made him feel whole.

Warning: Contains references to abuse, subversive ideas about sexual identity and gender expression, and a free-range bisexual on a mission.

Last bit from Torque…

77H

Happy Caturday Snippetteers!

This will be my last snippet from Torque. I have an event coming up on March 30 (besides blowing out candles :)) and will switch over to snippets from the next two books in the Buchanan House series to get ready for it.

The snippet below is from the same scene as last week’s, where Mercy found Mick fixing the Bug on the side of the road. Things have happened since then and Mercy’s just told Mick about the day she realized she wanted to present as female all the time.

He wasn’t floored by the revelation even though he probably should’ve been. He’d never known anyone who would dare talk about “wanting to be a girl”. Now that he thought about it, he’d never considered that anyone born with a dick would feel that way. After only a fraction of a second Mick decided it didn’t matter at all. Nothing had changed. He still wanted her. And still wished he didn’t.

Thanks for reading!

Don’t forget to head back to the Rainbow Snippets FB Group, where you’ll find links to more snippets of queer fiction from new and established authors. You might find historical fiction, YA, something sweet or something spicy, but the common thread is that all main characters will identify as LGBTQ+.
