Flash Sale! Two Paranormals for Halloween!

Cover art with buy link

It’s almost Halloween! To celebrate both of my pen  names are having Kindle Countdown Sales! Two paranormals with action and magick, and the right amount of Romance, for $0.99 each!

The Pinch of the Game

Being a witch doesn’t mean one can beat the devil forever.

Jeffrey Overton, unemployed IT professional turned poker player, pushes his luck once too often and runs afoul of the host of an illegal card club. The man sent to escort Jeffrey to a “meeting” about his supernatural winning streak arrives at Jeffrey’s crappy North Portland apartment, lock-picking tools in hand and a charm to block Jeffrey’s magick.

Head muscle for said host, Mike Wells, is a Daisy from Daisyville. He isn’t a witch. What he lacks in magickal talent he makes up for in brawn, so he doesn’t expect the guy he’s after to overpower him. But once Mike renders Jeffrey helpless, he’d rather seduce him than bring him in.

Jeffrey and Michael ditch the “meeting” and end up hunting some of the same people they ran from, trying to get Jeffrey back into his own body. And that’s only part of the adventure. The pair travel halfway across the country on the quietest road trip in history and find missing people, empire-building witches, and maybe even the families they’d both thought lost to them.

The Visionary

Classes are tedious, but his reality is murder.

Colin Page, eighteen-year-old community college student, apple polisher and all-around goody-goody, has a secret. He sees things that aren’t there. Unfortunately, the Doc Martens on the floor of the mail vestibule in his apartment building really are there and attached to a dead body. Hunkered over the body is someone Colin had barely noticed before, Private Investigator Al Green. Most people scare Colin, but for some reason, Al doesn’t, even after he reveals that he knows about the hidden reality of their world.

Alonzo Green, despite his low-power mind, is determined to help right the wrongs he unknowingly contributed to. He’s also hopelessly smitten. He knows it’s wrong—probably even dangerous—to enlist Colin’s help with the investigation. And that’s before considering all Al has to fear from Colin’s fiercely protective and powerful mother.

Colin and Al put some of the pieces together, but as soon as one thing becomes clear, the picture changes. The search for the Big Bad takes them from Portland to Tacoma and Seattle, and eventually to San Francisco, but their journey into each other’s arms is much shorter.

A Release Day Snippet…

Hello & welcome to my snippet!

Today is the official release day for The Pinch of the Game–or should I say re-release day! For the first time, it’s available in KU, in plenty of time for Halloween. If you like noir & fiction where the romance is the subplot, you might enjoy this novella.

Now for the snippet. This is almost right after the last one, which you can find here. Jeffrey is waking up the next day, still in the Motel6 & still with Mike, but everything else has changed.

I opened my eyes and they hurt. They didn’t work right either. Everything was blurry, and the colors seemed off somehow. Probably a concussion. Stretched out on my back on the floor was never a good way to wake up. All at once everything snapped into focus—what had happened, and to whom it had happened—and I hyperventilated until I was afraid of passing out again.

“Hey. You awake?”

“Michael?”

“No. It’s Santa Claus.”

He answered too fast for me to dwell on the strange voice that came out with my answer. Whoever’s mouth I was speaking out of. If I dared move, I might’ve kissed him.

Usually I stayed clear of Sal’s club, but slim pickings in the smaller establishments of late had left me dangerously close to dipping into my emergency stash. And, to be a little too honest, close to broke and closer to stupid. Hindsight. If I’d listened to my gut, I wouldn’t have had to try sneaking out the back of my own crappy apartment, hoping to beat a mountain on legs to the back fence. It had to be Sal’s muscle picking the lock on the front door, because I couldn’t change the configuration of the lock to keep him out no matter how many times I tried to magick the damned door.

Everyone has to make a living somehow. It’s not like Sal couldn’t afford a few hundred, but no, nobody got to use magick inside his club except him.

The guy stopped trying to get in, for the moment, so I guessed I was going on the lam in jeans and old Doc Martens. Great. Never thought I’d be running for my life in the clothes I wear to take out the trash. With a few minutes to change and secure my usual glamour, I could hit a poker game in Southwest after ditching the goon, but maybe an indulgence was in order. If Sal had sent someone after me, a short trip up to Seattle might be a good idea, maybe even BC. That called for some new clothes, so I grabbed my battered gym bag—my quick escape kit—and was almost home free when the kitchen door burst open. It would’ve been dumb to turn off the light when the goomba first went to work on the lock—I can’t see any better in the dark than your average Daisy, not when I’m blocked. Once that massive body filled the doorway, I wished I had. Wished I’d done something.

He hesitated, barely a moment, and I bolted for the front door. He grabbed me before I made it out of the kitchen and pinned both of my arms to my sides. It wouldn’t work, I knew that, but I still tried to burn his hands. All I needed was enough time to—fuck, is he laughing?

“Give it up, pretty boy. You’re blocked.”

The big man pushed me against the wall face-first and pulled both hands behind my back.

“Hey, wait a sec, big guy. Let’s talk about this. I can—”

He pushed me flat against the wall, and the rest of that sentence disappeared in the rush of air he squeezed from my lungs. I couldn’t help being turned on, even though pain and domination usually aren’t my thing. Neither are bears, but underneath the padding he felt nice and solid, leaning full against me. He tightened a plastic zip tie around my wrists with shaking hands. And then he held me there.

A Friday the 13th inspired snippet…

Hello & welcome to my snippet!

This week I’m excerpting from my newly re-released story The Pinch of the Game. I was going to have a flash sale only on Friday the 13th, but I think I’ll extend it through the weekend, just because I can. It’s one of the perks of being 100% self-published—I get to decide when my books are on sale. 😊 I also get to decide where they’re on sale & this one is only on PayHip through September!

Pinch was written in 2015, after a conversation with two readers and a flash fiction contest. I was chatting with a couple of readers about books we’d read lately, and about our love for action and paranormal, and one of them said she really wanted books where the romance was a subplot. So that’s what this is. It’s an action noir with a little love and sex on the side.

In this snip, we’re in a Motel6 in Michael’s POV and our two heroes indulged in some sexy-times that ended with Michael handcuffed to the TV. Two baddies burst in and did some big magick on Jeffrey while Michael had to hang out and watch. The little girl referenced is the one who did the magick. “Sally” is Sal, the owner of the card club who’d sent Michael to bring Jeffrey to him for a “meeting” about his magickal winning streak and Bennie is one of his goombahs.

Sorry about all the names, and the length, I just really wanted to post this snip. 😊

I stopped trying to get loose. Benny froze too, and for no reason that made sense, he looked like he was waiting for a field goal to sail sixty yards and split the uprights. The smile that crawled across his face made me wish I could take a step back through the wall and disappear.

“You did it.”

“Of course I did it, dumbshit.” It was Jeff’s voice—his honeyed voice that I never should’ve listened to—but the little girl’s words. Not-Jeff stood and stretched, ran both hands over his chest and ass. He gave his dick a squeeze through his jeans and laughed. “Fuck yeah, I did it.”

Benny was on his way toward me, gun in hand, when not-Jeff stopped laughing.

“Leave him. A maid will find him in the morning, with his pecker hanging out, with her. He’ll get locked up, and Sally will take care of things when it suits him.”

More witches

Hello & Happy Caturday!

This has been a busy week–I found a contractor to tackle my bathroom remodel, wrote some new words, and on 11/03 I’ll be volunteering for a local organization that lets folks “shop” for free food and clothes. I have a bunch of knitted hats & scarves I’ll be bringing along on Saturday, to help keep folks warm. Should be fun!

Here’s another snip of the witches. The story is full of action, but not all of it is dangerous. Well, I guess that depends on your definition of danger. 😉

Maybe it’d been a long time for him too, because neither of us lasted more than a couple of sweaty minutes.

After he finished, I expected to get the bum’s rush out of there. Instead, Michael eased onto his side and brought me along for the ride. He had amazing control of that large body. The bed hardly squeaked and didn’t bounce at all. A few minutes later, I found my face resting on a hairy chest with a nice bit of padding. The last person who’d cuddled me was my mom, so I went with it.

Another witchy snippet…

Hello Snippetteers! I’m late snippetting this week because yesterday was monopolized by car maintenance & house projects. I suppose brakes for the SUV could’ve been worse than $500, but unexpected expenses (and expanses of time spent waiting for mechanics) are always a PITA. At least the curtains are (finally!) hung in the living room–it’s much darker & warmer in here now. My little cave is shaping up nicely. ❤

Here are six more lines from my witches. This picks up where last week’s leaves off. You can find that snip here.

“You done? Because this ain’t a negotiation. I gotta bring you back to Sal.”

He still leaned against my back, so I couldn’t answer with more than a soft groan. It almost sounded like a sigh of relief—if he wasn’t going to kill me, maybe I could talk my way out with Sal. Since Mom left, Sal’s temper—always unpredictable—had gotten out of control. Sal probably wouldn’t listen to me, even if I knew where she was, but maybe I could bluff and buy enough time to disappear.

“Sal’s had trouble with too much magick in his place. He needs to make an example outta someone, and he picked you.”

A witchy snippet…

Hello Snippetteers! I hope you’re enjoying October! Fall is a great season for witches, so I’m going to share from my witchiest story, The Pinch of the Game. The snippet is longer than 6 sentences, so skip it if you’d rather. I tried to find 6 that made sense on their own but ended up just reading the first two chapters instead! *lol*
