I’m sharing from my new Christmas story again — HANDSPUN will be out next Friday, December 18th! 🙂
This snip picks up a couple of lines past where last week’s ended. (You can read that snip here.)
Mark silently berated himself for walking away from his crush. In his defense, he’d been sure that actually meeting the man—standing face to face with him and speaking to him—would end the infatuation as fast as a pin ended a balloon. Instead, he felt hot and prickly and itching to make a move. The guy was sending vibes like a spotlight pointed at the night sky.
No. Get what you came for and go. Nobody gets lucky in a yarn shop.

This week I’m snipping from a new Christmas story! It’s with a beta now and in a few weeks I’ll share it with my newsletter subscribers as a gift! If you’re interested in reading it, keep going after the snip for the scoop on how you can get your copy. 🙂
Christmas decorations and red, white, and green yarn filled the windows that were framed with a tasteful frosting of snow and a few hand-painted snowflakes. As Mark stood there contemplating just what in the name of holiday cheer he thought he was doing, he walked into the center of the window.
Holy Christmas, he’s even hotter close up.
A grin and the lift of one eyebrow told Mark he’d been staring. Or leering.
He went inside before he could change his mind.

Justice “JB” Bishop tells himself he’s satisfied with life in the small town of Upright, Oregon. He was born and raised there, and has settled into a comfortable, if lonely, routine working at his uncle’s bar. JB doesn’t expect anything to change after he turns fifty, until an old friend drops in. She suggests he get out of town for the holidays, and soon JB finds himself on an Amtrak to Canada. JB expected to feel different in Canada, to see things he couldn’t see at home. He never expected to find the one who got away.
Hello Snippetteers! The weather is getting cooler & the days shorter–at least where I live! As we inch toward the shortest day of the year, I’ve been doing a lot more reading and writing. My NaNo WIP is nearing the halfway point, and it’s a contemporary. I already can’t wait to share it with you. 🙂
This week I’m snipping from my last release, The Devil’s in the Details & other stories. This is from the last story, which takes place on winter solstice. It’s a Paranormal Dark Romance, which means it’s creepy and dark but also has a happy ending (depending on how you define “happy ending”). The Haunting of Elkins House definitely isn’t fluffy, but it’s my winter holiday story this year so I hope you enjoy it.
The shortest day of the year was no time to run past a haunted house, especially as shadows lengthened in the late afternoon sunlight. Dave shuddered when he passed the sprawling Gothic Revival by the lake. Even the lovely Christmas lights twinkling on the houses and reflected in the calm water couldn’t dispel the eerie feeling. As his mother would have said, he felt as though a goose had walked over his grave.
By purely aesthetic standards, the house was beautiful—from the wraparound porch with its turned railing to the decorative cornices and elaborate chimney.
But the stretch of path around the lake that wound closest to Elkins House was always colder than the rest of his route. Even on the brightest days the sun never seemed to penetrate the mature trees and the shadow of the imposing house itself.

The Devil’s in the Details & Other Stories
by Charley Descoteaux
Read three Paranormal Dark Romances featuring characters with shaky moral compasses as they get their Happily Ever Afters!
Here’s what you get inside:
The Devil’s in the Details
James is on the run from the Key West Coven and the job he never wanted: enforcer. Portland, Oregon, is as far away as he could get and still be in the US, and since he doesn’t have a passport or a way to get one, that’s where he stopped. James knows his freedom is anything but secure, so he’s not surprised when his proximity alarm alerts him that he’s being followed. He’s jumped under the Burnside Bridge and wakes in iron shackles that prevent him from using magic.
Marshall knows too much about his father’s business dealings with the supernatural underworld. He never would have guessed that knowledge could get him kidnapped. When a witch in iron shackles is tossed into his cell, his life changes forever.
The pair will have to work together if they’re to escape with their lives.
Warnings / Temptations: violence, inappropriate flirting, tattoos of dead languages, and sexy spellwork.
Upwardly Mobile
Riley MacIntyre can’t write, and it’s driving him mad. A serious head injury silenced the voices of characters in his head, and nothing he’s done has helped. After 440 days of silence and insomnia, Riley receives an invitation from the proprietor of a local business, whose pitch is that he can fix anything. Riley needs to resume his career writing mystery novels, but having a man on a late-night commercial set an appointment is, to say the least, unexpected.
Don Cross is a fixer. He’s also a lonely crossroads demon. When Riley visits him hoping to have his writer’s block fixed, Don makes him an unusual deal.
Warnings / Temptations: off-page murders and violence, depictions of descent into both figurative and literal Hell, a dapper crossroads demon, and an asexual man who expresses his romantic feelings using baked goods.
The Haunting of Elkins House
Dave Lehman lost his partner to cancer seven years ago and is still grieving. He’s jogging with a neighbor’s dog on the winter solstice when he receives a life-changing invitation.
Elkins House has been abandoned for over a century. So who is inviting Dave inside?
Warnings / Temptations: suicidal ideation, a disobedient dog, and a few drops of blood.
Hello Snippetteers! I hope you’re well & staying safe out there!
I’ve been on a dark kick for a while now (quarantine will do that to a person!) and am snipping from my Dark Romance collection & new release, The Devil’s in the Details & Other Stories!
This is from the first story (which shares a title with the collection :)), and is from the love interest’s POV. Marshall has been sitting in a cell for a few days with only himself for company.
But Marshall had never had much of a head for business—especially not the kind of business his father ran. A high-level accounting firm by day, and money laundering by night.
His captors could be anyone. Or anything.
Yes, any-thing.
Marshall wasn’t supposed to know that witches and werewolves and vampires were real. And his father was involved in shady business dealings with some of them.

Hello snippetteers! I hope you’re staying safe out there!
This week I have a snippet and an offer for you. First, the snippet (but be sure & read the bit after the snip :)).
Metal, Magic & Mayhem is a dark romance that’s with my editor now & I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’m sharing from it outside of my reader group. The story follows two guys as they perform illusions at a traveling heavy metal show.
The snip is seven sentences because it sounded better that way. #SorryNotSorry 😊
Dean was not only on auto-pilot, he was slow in slipping the handcuffs because he was busy thinking about the peek he’d gotten of Steve in the shower that morning. Their hotel room was even tinier than the stage and he couldn’t help but see. It wasn’t the first time he’d been treated to a view of Steve’s shower-slicked skin. The rooms they splurged for were always tiny, so it didn’t take any special maneuvering to catch a look at his sculpted abs and tempting cock. Dean loved the way Steve’s dark blond hair patterned the gentle slope of tanned skin on his back, the sections shaped like the blades in their act, all pointing to his nearly fluorescent-white round ass. It also wasn’t the first time the sight had drove him to horny distraction.
First time during a show, though.
Thanks for reading!
If you liked this snip & want to read the whole story you can, either by joining my Facebook reader group or subscribing to my newsletter.Metal, Magic & Mayhem will be free to group members and newsletter subscribers (as soon as it’s finished :)), and it won’t be available anywhere else. I’ll be sending the newsletter in about a week, so don’t wait!
In the meantime, visit Rainbow Snippets and check out everyone else’s stories!

Holiday Weekend, Buchanan House: Book Four
Ryan Orchard moved from small-town Idaho to Portland almost two years ago and still feels like a hick. When Paulie Nesbitt dumped him, he wasn’t even surprised. Despite losing twenty-five pounds since then, Ryan’s confidence is nonexistent and his life has stalled. Not only is he convinced the career he wants is beyond his reach, he’s given up on relationships. A new job at a familiar restaurant—and his gorgeous coworker—could be just what Ryan needs to believe in himself again.
Glenn Hernandez might be the only nineteen-year-old in Portland who dreads his days off. Between his horrible housing situation and the ever-present temptation to crawl back into the bottle, Glenn prefers to keep busy. He volunteers at the Elliott Foundation House, a homeless shelter helping LGBTQ sex workers. As an alum of the shelter, Glenn finds it hard to leave his past behind. But when the new server at the trendy restaurant where he works catches Glenn’s eye and works his way into his heart, Glenn finally has a reason to start a new life.

Hello folx! I just realized I never announced the release of the Buchanan House boxset on my own website!
Release day was June 23rd, and the boxset is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. The set includes the entire series plus a bonus epilogue written for the collection—3 novels, 2 novellas, and 2 short stories in all, over 1,600 pages of romance!
Except for a couple of shorts that are going to be freebies (read to the end to learn how you can get copies!), all of my former Dreamspinner titles have now been re-released. I’ve self-published them under my own label, CeeTwo Publishing. (If you see them out there under any other name, please give me a heads-up. <3)
To be honest, I never wanted to go indie. I would rather have found a new publisher. But, after six years of less-than-stellar experiences at every press I worked with, it will take a while to rebuild my trust in small presses. In the meantime, I’m working to recapture the love of writing for its own sake—and to find the courage to keep putting new stories out into the world. It’s not easy to do everything on my own—there’s always something besides writing that needs to be done, and I’m sure many things have fallen through the cracks. I appreciate the patience and support of my fans and fellow authors alike—you are the reason I’m trying to get new stories finished. You are the reason I keep showing up on social media, even when it’s difficult and feels like I’m typing in invisible ink or shouting into the void.
So, if you like beach reads, created families, and hard-earned happy endings, please give A Buchanan House Love Stories Collection a try!

I hope you’ve had a great week & your weekend is off to a good start (whether it’s a long one or not). Last week I’d planned to post my 4th Pride Month snippet, but the time got away from me while I was promoting the release of the Buchanan House boxset!
So, a week late but maybe more appropriate (see the end of this post for why that is :)), I give you a snip from Holiday Weekend! This is a little more than 6 sentences, but more than one is very short. 🙂
Nathan grinned. He’d been hesitant to close Buchanan House for Christmas weekend, but was glad they had. They seldom enjoyed the privacy to do whatever they wanted without the need to think about who was around or what chores awaited when they’d finished. Eric hadn’t given him much choice in the matter, though, and Nathan was prepared for a friendly “I told you so.” Or two. It wouldn’t be the first group wedding they’d held at the camp, but it would be the first with three couples from their family.
Thanks for reading!
