Not Quite 8, or Ending on a High Note!

Only five sentences, but I thought all of you wonderful readers who keep coming back via Seductive Studs & Sirens, Weekend Writing Warriors and Sunday Snippets deserved something upbeat for a change. Don’t want to give the wrong impression about the story. 😉

This is my last snippet from Directing Traffic. By next week at this time, you can read the whole thing if you’re so inclined, because release day is Wednesday!

Next week I’ll return to Jake & Co., and post a little from A Sunday Kind of Love, but in the meantime I have a lot planned!

June 25-27 I’ll be talking about eye candy on the Dirty Birdies Flock Hop! The final total of the grand prize gift card hasn’t been tallied yet, but here’s my prize–a Read at the Beach Gift Pack with a small tote bag, can cooler, chocolate with almonds, bookmark, sticky notes and a pen.

And then, on June 26 I’ll be running around the tubes visiting some wonderful friends’ blogs–Anne Lange and Antonia van Zandt.(And maybe more, so stay tuned!)

On June 27th I’ll be at Cup O’ Porn for their Thursday Things feature, talking about the thing that I don’t have and the thing I’m giving away.

At the risk of spoiling the surprise, here’s the thing I’m giving away–a gorgeous Directing Traffic ribbon bookmark from Swagmaster Designs!

And because I love my international friends too, I’ll have a $10 Dreamspinner Gift Certificate just for one of you!

Over the next few weeks, to celebrate both releases, I’ll be visiting a lot of great blogs and giving away more presents–so check back and play along!

Okay, I’m done now, time to clickityy-click & read more snippets! I’m sure they’ll have more than five sentences for you to enjoy. 🙂

Seductive Studs & Sirens, Weekend Writing Warriors, Sunday Snippets

Today I’m the guest!

The lovely Shehanne Moore invited me to her hot seat again, and this time I brought protection–Ray Bigelow. Since I almost killed the poor guy in Directing Traffic it’s only fair he should enjoy a bit of the spotlight too! He’s talking a little about himself, and also dishing the backstage dirt on his nephew, Ty. Just be prepared, he’s a little crusty on the outside, even if he does have a soft (yet lady-killing) center.

Better late than never!

So I made it through my final exams (& a medical procedure which I won’t talk about but that turned out, to quote the doctor, “awesome”)–and then my brain shut down. I spent yesterday afternoon looking at silly cat pictures and trying to read, and then went to bed early and actually slept past 6 a.m.!

All of which made me late in posting my snippet today. Sorry if anyone followed my link from Seductive Studs & Sirens before I posted!

Cover!Being late does tie in to today’s snippet, in a way. Neil learned CPR too late to save his partner, but he came through for someone else.

Neil dropped to his knees beside the man. He wasn’t breathing. As Neil began chest compressions, he told the young man standing nearby and wearing an all-too-familiar expression of horror to call 9-1-1. After that, Neil’s only concern was to keep going until help arrived.

It took two EMTs to pull Neil off the man, he was so determined to save him. Once he realized what was happening, Neil quickly moved out of the way and watched as they assessed the man’s condition, determined he’d begun breathing again, and gave him oxygen. He couldn’t tear his eyes from the scene—the burly EMTs working to help the frail old man.

Familiar feelings of weightlessness and translucence descended as Neil watched the old man disappear into the back of an ambulance, the young man, probably his grandson—or his partner—talking to him as he climbed in beside him.

Another bit o’ swag is up for grabs this weekend. Be sure to include your e-mail address in your comment so I know you’re interested in the giveaway. Tell me about the most unusual swag item you’ve received (or seen!) for an extra entry!

International folks–visit me on June 27 at the Cup O’ Porn blog where I’ll have both a US and an International giveaway.

Be sure and check out the rest of the snippets, Seductive Studs & Sirens on Saturday and Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday on, well, Sunday! 🙂

Happy Pride Month!

It’s been almost a year now since i started blogging, and the whole time i’ve wanted to update the banner. I finally got around to asking Kiddo to make me one, and I think she did a beautiful job!

Even non-conformists can play well with others (when they choose to) — so, as promised, i’m following the rules with this weekend’s snippet for Seductive Studs & Sirens, Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday. Here are 8 sentences from my upcoming Dreamspinner Press release, Directing Traffic. Since it’s the beginning of June and the beginning of Pride Month, these are the first 8 sentences.

FIVE days before the second anniversary of the worst day of his life, Neil suspended mail delivery to the condo and left without telling anyone where he was going. He parked the silver Mercedes Roadster in the same space where it sat the last time. Check-in wouldn’t be for another few hours, so Neil left his sandals in the car and walked down to the beach. He had to walk a long way; the water was invisible and almost inaudible from the parking lot. Mid-September on the Oregon coast meant the weather should’ve been clear and a little cool. Instead, visibility of barely a quarter-mile made it seem as though he had the whole beach to himself. The whole world, even. The thought made him shiver, and he zipped up his thin red jacket.
