A Found Family snippet…

Hello Snippetteers & Happy Caturday!

This week I’m snipping from Nesting Habits because it’s featured the Family & Found Family Promotion with some of my favorite authors!! Read on after the snip for details on how you can find the other books in the promotion!

My snip is exactly six sentences long! Those are the rules (rules I made! *lol*) but I’m usually not a stickler for obeying them. It’s pretty obvious what’s happened before this snip so I’ll just say that Lee and Phil are in Phil’s Jeep.

“Thanks for lunch,” Lee said, and turned to look at the hot guy in the car with him. The hot guy who’d just gone down on him a few yards away from the flipping trail, for shit’s sake. The guy who’d made him crazy before he ever touched him.

Phil smiled and turned his head, hands tight on the wheel. It was an honest-to-goodness full-blown smile, and it hit Lee like warm rays of sunshine after months of nothing but rain. “Find something good on the radio?”

Nesting Habits

Phil Brask spends his days in the basement of his mentor’s Victorian home, converting legal documents into electronic format. When the pipe feeding the water heater bursts, Lee Redding arrives in the plumber’s truck and draws Phil away from the narrow focus of his computer and camera lens.

Lee gives Phil hope for a life beyond the walls he’s constructed using the nesting habits of migratory birds and dense legal files, a guided tour through a world filled with romance and music…maybe even family. But there’s a reason Phil retreated behind those walls, why he panics at a simple touch.

Lee has a good life—working with his uncle and on his mother’s farm, playing bass in a horrible metal band, and hooking up when he pleases—but he’s always suspected something was missing. When he meets the hot photographer with the icy-blue eyes, he knows exactly what that something is.

Phil isn’t like other guys, but neither is Lee beneath his carefree exterior. Maybe Lee’s the perfect guy to show Phil that everything doesn’t have to be done the hard way and “home” isn’t a four-letter word.

Now available at Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Amazon!

Phil isn’t like other guys, but neither is Lee beneath his carefree exterior. Maybe Lee’s the perfect guy to show Phil that everything doesn’t have to be done the hard way and “home” isn’t a four-letter word.

Here’s a teaser, from the first sex-in-the-park scene (there are two, btw 😉).

Phil took a slow deep breath, and Lee silently begged him not to stop. He didn’t much care what Phil had in mind, only that he keep going with it. A moment later, the trembling stopped and that tiny smile appeared at the left corner of Phil’s mouth.

The sounds of Lee’s breathing filled up the clearing, loud and ragged. He opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Phil pulled his hand down over Lee’s nipple. Nobody had ever touched him there before, and his nipple was so hard, even that short contact through his shirt almost hurt. The heat of Phil’s hand moved up between his pecs and stopped for a moment, over his heart.

He was so glad he worked out as Phil’s hand moved across his chest again, then down over his ribs, so slowly it was maddening. Lee sweated and popped Advil regularly, telling himself he pushed too hard so he could take off his shirt on stage—but he’d never done that. Lee watched Phil’s face until that hand made it to his obliques. Phil added his other hand and gripped him just above the waist, and Lee’s eyes fell closed as he moaned. Thoughts of bringing his incline bench out to Portland or maybe trying one of those low-fat diets skated through his mind.

“Shhh.” Phil shushed him at the same time he moved one hand to rest against Lee’s stomach. With the other, Phil gripped his waist tighter and kneaded just a bit. When he went on, Phil’s voice was a whisper that came from between Lee’s rapidly heating thighs. “We’re not very far from the trail. Sound travels out here.”

Phil didn’t move for what felt like ages. Lee nodded, his eyes still closed, and Phil trailed both palms down over his thighs. They reached his knees, squeezed gently, and then retraced their path back up to the waistband of Lee’s jeans. And then up and under his T-shirt.

Nathan chose that moment to enter, in his pink robe with the ostrich-feather trim. He spoke quickly, almost dancing through the room and toward the aroma of coffee. “Good morning. You don’t mind I borrowed your robe? And this must be Tim. Lovely to meet you, sweetheart. Coffee, then business.” He flounced into the kitchen.

Eric and Tim watched him go. The silence in his wake stretched out a little too long for Eric, who was mortified by the thought Tim might believe the robe belonged to him.

“What’re you planning to do with the place?”

“Run a retreat—a camp. We’re going to call it Buchanan House.”

“You the Buchanans?”

“What? Us? No, not us…. Nathan and I, we’re friends.” Eric wasn’t sure why the air had suddenly evaporated from the room, but he didn’t like the feeling. “We bonded in middle school over the hand dryers in the bathroom. We both used them regularly to combat the effects of swirlies.”

Tim pursed his lips and nodded. He looked like he was trying not to laugh, or getting ready to peck his grandmother on the cheek. Thinking that sent a shiver down Eric’s back.

“It’s for James Buchanan.”

“The president?”

“Yep.” Eric still wasn’t sure how it would go over, but he tried to pretend he didn’t care. “The confirmed bachelor president with a very close male friend. This will be our own little melting pot.”

Tim watched him closely and, after a moment, nodded again.

Eric wasn’t sure what Tim made of all that, but he didn’t seem upset. Actually, he didn’t seem to have much emotion at all. A pang of jealousy stabbed through Eric’s chest. He’d give a lot to feel a little less for a change.

Buchanan House

Eric Allen and his bestie buy a neglected hotel on the scenic Oregon coast to fulfill their middle-school dreams of co-owning a B&B. The building is in decent shape but in order to turn Buchanan House into the gay resort of their dreams, it’s going to need work.

Tim Tate is a skilled carpenter with many hidden talents, and a body that could grace the pages of a fitness magazine. When he and Eric meet, it’s mutual lust at first sight. Despite the intense attraction, both men are hesitant to fully out themselves by acting on it. But when they give in, it’s obvious that they’ve found something special—and not only in bed.

Before Eric can be free to love the gorgeous handyman they have to make it through the July4th grand opening. With rain that won’t stop and a meddling brother intent on wreaking havoc, can the holiday still go off with a bang?

My book in the event is Buchanan House—the first book in my first-ever series! It made the USA Today Must-Read Romance list the year of its original release and I’m super proud of it, but it was almost a very different story.

I took a trip to Lincoln City in 2014 before starting a new job—a long weekend at the beach to get some writing done. While I walked on that lovely beach, I started thinking about setting a story at a beach resort. An Oregon-style beach resort. And originally the story was going to be a mystery!

That was scary because I’d never written a mystery, but I saw the opening scene so clearly, so I played around with it for the rest of the day. But then I decided I didn’t want an actual dead guy in the story. We have enough dead queers in literature without me adding to the total on the page.

So then I tried to think of a way to have a compelling mystery without a dead body—something I’m still working on by the way!

By the next day I’d explored enough of the surrounding area to know that I wanted the resort to be a happy and hopeful place, not somewhere people expected bodies to turn up. So, the Buchanan House series was born. Each of the main books in the timeline start with a funeral (and “funeral” is in quotes more than once, you’ll have to read the books to see what I mean) and end with a wedding. The two novellas outside the main timeline—Pride Weekend and Holiday Weekend—don’t have either, but both have HFN endings.

💕 An IRL Happy Ending!💕

My latest book dropped this week, Velvet Cuffs, Kink Awakening: Book Three, so of course I spent a some time working on ways to let readers know about it. Since the tropes are second chance, a Dom who thought he understood his kink, and silk and lace, I needed to showcase the silk and lace.

I spent hours looking for pictures on several stock photo sites but none showed me photos of sexy men in lacy lingerie that I would consider using to promote Velvet Cuffs. As you can probably imagine, a lot of the searches turned up MF couples and women in all manner of leather and lace—and hey, I love kinky gals, but that’s not what I was looking for. 😉

So, naturally, I whined and moaned to everyone in my household about the lack of appropriate fetish pix I could use to promote my kinky book. My cats weren’t very helpful but my kid was. (She’s an adult so don’t @ me.)

During my searches, I’d found several photos of Etsy shops offering amazing lingerie for men—including gorgeous pictures that I would have grabbed in a hot second from any stock photo site. So, the kid suggested I contact a seller and ask to use one of their photos in exchange for sharing their link. I’d thought about that for a second or two but not seriously. She convinced me to give it a shot, and I’m so glad I did!

Out of all the shops, I was drawn to CarlWesley. The designs are gorgeous and the photos definitely made me want to hang around and look. I messaged the shop owner and he got back to me within minutes! He was very open to the idea, and he contacted the model to get his permission as well.

Needless to say, this story has a happy ending just like Velvet Cuffs. I’m able to use the lovely photo I had my eye on, and hopefully Wes and Erik will get a boost from it as well.

So, the question on my mind now is This or That? Leather or Lace?

Which do you prefer??

Velvet Cuffs, Kink Awakenings: Book Three

Josh Keller never thought he’d host a wedding reception—his kink club is a place where he tends bar and chains willing men to the padded wall in his private room. He also never thought he’d see the love of his life again. When both happen on the same day his life will never be the same.

Pax Dupont never stopped loving Josh, not when they fought and broke up and not during the fifteen years they spent a thousand miles apart. Coming face-to-face with the man he left behind is a surprise, but learning Josh is part owner of the club intrigues Pax enough to share his own love of silk, lace, and domination.

Will Josh and Pax put past hurts behind them and admit their feelings still run hot, or will Pax’s desire to dominate Josh break them up for good?

Warnings: This book contains a brief scene of violence and a hero in peril, mentions of past abuse of a child, grief over the death of siblings, a man who loves the feel of silk and lace, and one who thought he understood his own kinky nature.

Hello Snippetteers & Happy Caturday!

Today I’m snipping from the first book in my Buchanan House series because it’s featured in a backlist event with some of my favorite authors! Stick around after the snip for details, there’s still time to enter. ❤

This is from the scene where our hero Eric watches Tim leave the ocean after surfing. At first Eric and BFF Nathan had watched Tim through binoculars, trying to figure out what the dark blob was bobbing between the waves. After Tim gets close enough so they can see it’s him, Nathan encourages Eric’s attraction to the hot handyman.

“Mm-mm-mmm. That is a tasty dish.” Nathan bumped his shoulder into Eric’s.

Before Eric could respond to Nathan’s teasing, Tim unzipped the top of his wetsuit. Eric stood, transfixed, as Tim peeled the top half from his body and let it hang around his waist like the bib on a pair of overalls. It was like watching a live-action ad for Men’s Fitness. Tim’s upper body was sculpted to lean perfection—he looked strong and athletic, but not bulky. His hair sent drops of water sliding down his chest, and Eric thought about licking the salt water from his warm skin, peeling the rest of the wetsuit away, and—

A dreamy, half-faraway snippet…

Hello Snippetteers & welcome to the weekend! I hope you’re staying warm (or cool, whatever applies 😊).

This week I’m sharing another snip from Satin Sheets, Kink Awakenings: Book Two. Wes and Eoin are still in the speakeasy, and Eoin just asked what happened to make Wes wonder how kinksters figure out their fetishes. This snip is a little longer than 6 sentences for context and swoon-factor.

“Oh. Well. It was an ordinary thing so I’m not sure if it even qualifies.”

“A kink doesn’t have to be exotic. Some folx like to be spanked lightly with an open hand.” Eoin watched for any sign that was West’s kink but saw nothing to indicate it was. You’re baked, and deluded into thinking you can read his lovely mind. “Or it can be as simple as a blindfold or having your wrists held in place during sex.”

That’s it. Restricted movement.

West’s pupils dilated and the skin at his throat flushed a pretty pink. He got that dreamy half-faraway look in his dark eyes again too. For a moment Eoin was tempted to lean in and kiss those luscious full lips, but a heartbeat later he wondered if he was out of his mind.

Satin Sheets, Kink Awakenings: Book Two

How do you know if you’re kinky?

Wes Roberts always thought his need for adventure was only a desire to see the world. After starting a job at a private kink club it becomes obvious he’s not as vanilla as he thought. Less surprising is his attraction to the tall flirty redhead he meets his first night.

Eoin McBride, former Army brat and self-described drifter, relies on his kink and the club that has become his home. Eoin is stunned when the lovely younger man returns his interest. But that’s nothing compared to how he feels when Wes approaches him for guidance in the exploration of his new-found interest in bondage.

If Eoin can stick around he just might be the perfect man to help Wes discover his kink, and maybe even find the love they both crave.

Warnings: this book contains sexually explicit scenes, depictions of the effects of PTSD, descriptions of injuries sustained while in the military, legal drug use, off-page death of a minor character, and the scattering of ashes without a permit.
