A Valentine’s Day Snippet!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I don’t have many relevant passages in my books (because I’m not a huge fan of the holiday, to be honest), but I do have this one from Buchanan House. This is Eric and Nathan just moving in. It’s only 6 sentences too!

By horrible coincidence they arrived, Nathan’s car packed to the brim with their belongings and cleaning supplies in hand, on Valentine’s Day.

“I’m famished,” Nathan announced before he’d even turned off the car. “Our first project will be cleaning the kitchen and making lunch.”

“Okay. Once we’ve finished cleaning, I’ll call one of those handyman guys we found. Handymen?”

Thanks for reading!

Buchanan House

Eric Allen and his bestie buy a neglected hotel on the scenic Oregon coast to fulfill their middle-school dreams of co-owning a B&B. The building is in decent shape but in order to turn Buchanan House into the gay resort of their dreams, it’s going to need work.

Tim Tate is a skilled carpenter with many hidden talents, and a body that could grace the pages of a fitness magazine. When he and Eric meet, it’s mutual lust at first sight. Despite the intense attraction, both men are hesitant to fully out themselves by acting on it. But when they give in, it’s obvious that they’ve found something special—and not only in bed.

Before Eric can be free to love the gorgeous handyman they have to make it through the July4th grand opening. With rain that won’t stop and a meddling brother intent on wreaking havoc, can the holiday still go off with a bang?

Valentine’s Day Sale!

As an indie author, I can do anything I want with my books. So, I’m having a Valentine’s Day sale! The standalone novella Always Forward! Never Straight is $0.99 In both the US and UK through 2/17!

Love isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon.

Baxter Bryan is the nerdy half of BaxCo, a start-up in Portland’s Silicon Forest creating cutting-edge high-tech toys. He’s also a hermit. When BaxCo sponsors the Portland Rock and Roll Half Marathon, Bryan decides to break out of his comfort zone and do more than listen to the music with a beer in hand. The race has barely started when he bumps into a fit, handsome man, causing sparks to fly. But the long hours needed to make BaxCo a success aren’t the only reason Bryan spends most of his time alone in his apartment.

Cay Nissen runs every day to stay in shape. He would love to run away from his job in a Silicon Forest cube farm, but keeps returning to support his teenaged daughter. His true love is music. Cay writes songs for the band he helped form in high school but doesn’t see any way to turn music into a career. The half marathon seemed like a decent way to pass a Saturday, make his boss happy, and catch a performance of his old band all at the same time. When he meets a man who sparks his interest, the safety of his cubicle isn’t the only part of his life that’s in jeopardy of changing.

Pre-Order Silken Ropes on Amazon ~ Release Day is March 6th!

The best cure for a broken heart is a Shibari artist.

It took Ross Jensen ten months to lose 98 pounds, but the day he makes Lifetime in Weight Watchers he loses another 220 in an instant when his boyfriend dumps him. He’d never heard of a “chubby chaser,” but he’d been living with one for a year. Ross’s BFF offers him her guest room and drags him out to her favorite sex club. He’s hoping for a little action—or at least a distraction.

When Miles Shigihara is not busy designing meditation gardens, he practices Shibari. He’s looking forward to a relaxing evening at his club, but is captivated by first-timer Ross. Miles doesn’t hesitate to approach Ross and treat him—and a small audience—to a steamy scene.

Irresistible chemistry and a shared love of ropes draws them together, but Ross will need to leave his body issues behind and get comfortable discussing his boundaries if he’s to have a future with the man who’s managed to tie his heart in knots.

Warnings: This book features a corporate sensitivity trainer with an agenda, an awesome gal-pal, a sexy Japanese rope artist, and the unconventional sex club of my dreams.

This book was previously published. Portions have been re-written for the Second Edition.

Budget Books: Entering Giveaways!

One way to feed a reading habit is to enter giveaways. I don’t do that much since I started publishing my own books, but I entered a LOT of giveaways in the early days of ebooks. Those free ebooks–mostly by authors I’d never heard of, let alone read before–fueled my love of reading and helped me feel less alone as a queer person in a straight world.

If you’d like to enter to win free ebooks, there are Facebook groups dedicated to giveaways and freebies in many genres. Facebook’s search bar should turn up a promising group or two.

Joining Rainbow Readers Club is also a great way to find giveaways–both public and those exclusive to the group. In fact, the group has a Valentine’s Day giveaway going now featuring MM Romances in a few sub-genres! You don’t have to be a member to enter but joining will get you more entries!

A few clicks will get you closer to free books by Karen Stivali, Eliot Grayson, Nic Starr, CJane Elliott, Liv Rancourt, Elizabeth Noble, and me!

Budget Book Rec: Backstage Beginnings by Erin McRae & Racheline Maltese

I chose this week’s book rec because I’ve read these authors before and loved the stories, so when I saw they had a $0.99 short I snatched it right up.

Two of the things I knew going into this story were that there would be polyamory—which is something I don’t see enough of in queer fiction and love to read when it’s done well—and a musician.

Dates were hard. Dates that involved seeing his boyfriend’s other boyfriend…totally more hard.

Both of those things are right there in the blurb so they’re not spoilers. But I also knew, from reading McRae & Maltese’s work, that the main characters would be in public life—so, maybe a rock star, actor, or something like that. Since my own life is ordinary, reading from a celebrity’s point of view is a welcome change from my day-to-day which is mainly taken up by the Evil Day Job and pursuing an artistic dream that’s a longshot at best.

He was somewhat tempted to play the groupie, as Andrew had halfway suggested. It would at least be a script to follow, but one that came too close to the mix of business and pleasure he was determined to avoid.

It would be spoilery if I told you exactly what these men do for a living and why they’re all together, so I won’t. It would also be spoilery to go into details about the steamier aspects of this short, since it is very short, so I won’t do that either. Suffice to say it was a hot read and I enjoyed every word.

If you’re in the mood for something a little longer, I would also recommend their Love’s Labours series. Which is now available in a single volume (and priced accordingly). Which is convenient because once you read the first one you’ll definitely want to go on to the second! Love’s Labours is an M/M Romance too, so if you’re in the mood for a Romance with actors and age gap, I bet you’ll like it.

Backstage Beginnings

Jack is dating Andrew. Andrew is dating Christian. And polyamory works just fine for all of them.

At least until Andrew wants Jack to be his date to see Christian’s band play at a local bar. Jack’s all for sharing, but having to make nice about other people’s artistic ventures when he’s not involved with them sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Despite his misgivings, Jack wants to be a good boyfriend and finds himself saying yes… to a whole lot more than he bargained for.

A snippet with goose bumps…

Here’s another snip from Nesting Habits, my newly re-released New Adult MM Romance novel.

The guys are in Phil’s Jeep, going to a state park so he can take pictures of herons nesting. This is in Lee’s point of view and he’s…a little distracted by the view.

Phil made a quiet sound, like he was exasperated, but Lee was having a hard time concentrating. Every time Phil moved his hands or turned the wheel, Lee broke out in goose bumps. He wished Phil would take off his long-sleeved denim shirt so he could watch the muscles in his arms. The collar of a robin’s egg blue T-shirt peeked out at his neck, so he could take off the outer shirt and if he felt cold, there was always the heater…. Lee snapped out of his own head when Phil cut him a strange sideways look. Must’ve been caught staring. At least there wasn’t any drool on the front of his shirt.

Nesting Habits

All he ever wanted was to be a normal guy….

Phil Brask spends his days in the basement of his mentor’s Victorian home, converting legal documents into electronic format. When the pipe feeding the water heater bursts, Lee Redding arrives in the plumber’s truck and draws Phil away from the narrow focus of his computer and camera lens. Lee gives Phil hope for a life beyond the walls he’s constructed using the nesting habits of migratory birds and dense legal files, a guided tour through a world filled with romance and music…maybe even family. But there’s a reason Phil retreated behind those walls, why he panics at a simple touch.

Lee has a good life—working with his uncle and on his mother’s farm, playing bass in a horrible metal band, and hooking up when he pleases—but he’s always suspected something was missing. When he meets the hot photographer with the icy-blue eyes, he knows exactly what that something is. Phil isn’t like other guys, but neither is Lee beneath his carefree exterior. Maybe Lee’s the perfect guy to show Phil that everything doesn’t have to be done the hard way and “home” isn’t a four-letter word.

Budget Book Rec: Shameless Self Promotion!

Over the past week & change I’ve been taking a class and learning how to market my work better and reach more readers. It’s been a challenge, and sometimes fun, and a LOT of new information every day—which is great!—but all that has left me with no time to find a budget book to rec this week. I’ve been reading (and working on my March 6th release!) but mostly paperbacks so I can get away from a screen for a little while. It’s been fun re-reading some favorites from my bookshelves and I recommend doing that once in a while, if you don’t already.

So. Today I’m going to plug my own budget book, the first Buchanan House Love Story, Buchanan House. It’s $0.99, so you can meet the family without breaking the bank. For the 2nd Edition I’ve combined Buchanan House and Pride Weekend into a single volume, so you get two full stories for that dollar!

I’m not going to quote from the book or tell you what I like about it—beyond that it’s chock full of hurt / comfort, which is my favorite trope! All the books in the series have different tropes, but most also have an element of hurt / comfort. Click any of the book covers in this post (or a buy link, of course!) and you can decide for yourself which quote stands out or if you love the characters (spoiler alert: I love them all!).

Stay tuned, I’ll have another budget book rec next Wednesday. Coming soon in this space: info about a Valentine’s Day giveaway in my author group, and more updates on my March release!

Thanks for reading & have a great week!

A tension-filled snippet…

Hello snippetteers & Happy Caturday!

This week’s snip from Nesting Habits is after the one from last week (click here to read it). Phil & Lee have left the concert venue and gone to a little coffeehouse to hang out. Phil took photos at the show and he’s just turned on the view screen and handed the camera to Lee.

Lee took it with his empty hand and rested it on his thighs, the lens parting them just so. Phil felt the heat of being stuck in a long-sleeved shirt even though March didn’t seem to be going out like a lamb. Lee paged through the shots and made the half cookie disappear at the same time. When he licked cookie crumbs from his fingers, Phil had to work not to sigh out loud. Lee grinned and looked up, and Phil knew he wasn’t hiding that he wanted to be on the receiving end of that tongue. Those fingers weren’t turning him off either.
