Cascades by Charley Descoteaux

Justice “JB” Bishop tells himself he’s satisfied with life in the small town of Upright, Oregon. He was born and raised there, and has settled into a comfortable, if lonely, routine working at his uncle’s bar. JB doesn’t expect anything to change after he turns fifty, until an old friend drops in. She suggests he get out of town for the holidays, and soon JB finds himself on an Amtrak to Canada. JB expected to feel different in Canada, to see things he couldn’t see at home. He never expected to find the one who got away.

A holiday snippet…

Hello Snippetteers & Happy Holidays!

Whatever you celebrate or if you don’t celebrate anything at all, I hope you had a fabulous week!

I’m sharing from my new Christmas story again, Handspun. Which, I’m sure you won’t be shocked to hear, I forgot to announce! Release Day was Friday, 12/18, and this little book has done surprisingly well, making it to #5 in LGBT Short Reads and into the top 100 of the Romance Short Reads category on Amazon!

This snip picks up a couple of lines past where last week’s ended. (You can read that snip here.) The first dialogue belongs to our hero’s crush. ❤

“Come on, Mark. I’m Chris.” He stepped near enough to offer his hand to shake. When Mark hesitated, Chris placed his other fist on his hip and frowned. “You really don’t remember me, do you?”

“Something is familiar about you, but I thought maybe I’d just seen you out sometime. At a bar or…”

“Picture me with a bright blue fade. Ten years younger and oh-so twinkier?”

Mark froze. Periwinkle blue hair popped right into his mind. The periwinkle blue hair he’d tried so hard not to notice in high school.

Handspun: A Gay Christmas Romance

Nobody gets lucky in a yarn shop.

For once, Mark hasn’t put off his Christmas shopping until the last minute. When he heads to a yarn shop on the day before Christmas Eve, he has more on his mind than a gift for his grandmother. He hopes to get a closer look at the shop’s owner and get over the crush he’s been nursing for weeks. Mark wants to find his grandmother a special gift, but he’s the one who’s in for a holiday surprise.

This story features a buff blue-collar fish-out-of-water with a crush, a fierce entrepreneur, a sexy knitting lesson with a happy ending, and an unusual Christmas party.

My Year: 2020

I’m taking a break from editing to reflect on 2020 and think about what I want to accomplish writing-wise in 2021, so I thought I’d share a little of it!

2020 wasn’t an easy year, but I got more done than I thought! I re-released my M/M Romance with a side of kink with a sexy new cover and a new title, and a boxset of the Buchanan House series with an amazing set of covers by the talented LC Chase.

The boxset includes a bonus epilogue, which was also the first new story I wrote and published since my car accident in 2017. It was so much fun to visit the Buchanan House family again. I love those guys!

I had a few ideas for paranormals and Dark Romances, so I indulged my inner horror-fan and wrote those. Upwardly Mobile is a story in The Devil’s in the Details & Other Stories that I’d started a while ago and finally finished this year. It was an especially cathartic story for me and I hope you enjoy it. The titular story in that collection was inspired by the cover, which was a new experience for me and one I’ve repeated.

Obviously I got the darkness out of my system, because my 2020 Christmas story is probably the lowest-angst I’ve ever written! Handspun is a short and sweet story I’d been wanting to write for a while. I wasn’t sure it was on brand, though, so I held back. It’s not super angsty like most of my writing, but I think that’s okay. 😊

In November I drafted a new novella during NaNoWriMo and am almost ready to send it to betas and have it edited. I’m super proud of it, and am looking forward to getting it out into the world! It’s book two in a new series—more on that as it gets closer to release!

I also have plans for a book three in that series, and a new series of three novellas. Those stories should take me through the first half of 2021. Once I know what I want to accomplish after that, I’ll let you know.

Happy Holidays! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a happy and prosperous 2021!

A Handspun snippet…

Hello Snippetteers & Happy Holidays!

I hope you’re well and staying safe out there!

I’m sharing from my new Christmas story again — HANDSPUN will be out next Friday, December 18th! 🙂

This snip picks up a couple of lines past where last week’s ended. (You can read that snip here.)

Mark silently berated himself for walking away from his crush. In his defense, he’d been sure that actually meeting the man—standing face to face with him and speaking to him—would end the infatuation as fast as a pin ended a balloon. Instead, he felt hot and prickly and itching to make a move. The guy was sending vibes like a spotlight pointed at the night sky.

No. Get what you came for and go. Nobody gets lucky in a yarn shop.

A Christmasy snippet…

Hello Snippetteers & Happy Holidays!

I hope you enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving if you celebrate, and are making plans for a wonderful winter holiday!

This week I’m snipping from a new Christmas story! It’s with a beta now and in a few weeks I’ll share it with my newsletter subscribers as a gift! If you’re interested in reading it, keep going after the snip for the scoop on how you can get your copy. 🙂

Christmas decorations and red, white, and green yarn filled the windows that were framed with a tasteful frosting of snow and a few hand-painted snowflakes. As Mark stood there contemplating just what in the name of holiday cheer he thought he was doing, he walked into the center of the window.

Holy Christmas, he’s even hotter close up.

A grin and the lift of one eyebrow told Mark he’d been staring. Or leering.

He went inside before he could change his mind.
