Another house-centric snippet…

Hello and Happy Pride! Welcome to my snippet!

This week’s will be my last house-centric teaser from the Buchanan House series. Probably. It’s from Art House, Buchanan House: Book Six, which will be out in late August. It can pretty much stand on its own, so I’m going to let it do that.

Chase dragged himself down the hidden staircase and followed the aroma of coffee into the kitchen. If it had been a day when Buchanan House was open, the kitchen would have been bustling with activity even at eleven in the morning. On a Wednesday, not so much. Pretty much the only sound came from the laundry room, but the closed door kept it fairly quiet in the kitchen. Chase poured himself coffee, and Paulie gave him a peach scone. Paulie knew he wasn’t much of a breakfast eater, and the fact that he didn’t try to feed him a whole meal made Chase feel calm. Understood. Like he was with family.

A sweet little snippet!

Happy Caturday Snippetteers!

In honor of the galley proof, I’m snippetting from Art House, Buchanan House: Book Six! This is probably the angstiest of the Buchanan House books, which is one reason I still love it even at this stage of edits.

Here’s a little snip from Chase’s POV. I don’t think it needs much of an intro. 😉

“I’ve been missing you.” Chase brought his free hand up to Garrett’s
face. He caressed his soft cheek, drew a fingertip along his jawline, applying
the barest whisper of pressure, hoping he would look up.

Garrett’s lips parted, and he gazed at Chase with a familiar expression
that said “I don’t quite believe it, but don’t stop.” So Chase didn’t stop. He
dipped his head and kissed Garrett’s cheek, his jaw, and left more kisses
trailing to that special spot behind his ear.

A less than artful proposition…

Hand drawing heart in sand on the beachHola Snippetteers and welcome!

I hope you’re staying cool (or warm, depending on where you are) and enjoying life! Things are slowly getting back to normal here which is a relief because i have a lot of cool stuff coming up and don’t want to do any of it halfway.

I’m sharing from BH#6 again today–the last book in my Buchanan House series (that is still not finished). Last week I introduced Garrett and this week am rolling out a teaser for one of the big issues in the story. You can find previous snippets from this story here.

Nope. Not telling what it is but you’ll probably get it. 🙂

The first line of dialogue is a guy who works in an art supply store. He’s just recognized Chase’s name from his credit card and they chatted a little about art while the kid bagged his purchase. Standard warnings re: creative punctuation and unedited material apply.

“Say, if you’re free in a couple hours maybe we could grab a beer and talk about it.”

The kid’s look said talking was probably low on his priority list; Chase guessed the kid would have let him buy the beer though.

“Not free, but thanks.”

“I don’t see a ring.”

Is this what getting cruised is like now?

Chase shuddered but forced what he hoped was a friendly smile onto his face at the same time. “Not everyone who’s unmarried is free.”

The final Buchanan House series introduction…

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagHola Snippetteers and welcome!

Thanks for keeping on keeping on while i was laid up last week. To be honest, it’s been a long time since i’ve felt 100% but hopefully that’s about to change. I don’t want to wish my life away, but will be happy when this recovery is over and i can go back to doing all the things!

I’m sharing from BH#6 today–the last book in my Buchanan House series (that is still not finished). The last time i snippetted i shared the opening six lines, from Chase’s POV. You can find those here (it’s been awhile!).

This is a little longer than six lines and i apologize for the dense block of text (and its unedited state). It’s from chapter two and seemed to show a lot about Garrett without giving away too much. Still, i had to redact an entire sentence to avoid a spoiler for Safe House. You can find out what it was on September 19. 😉

Garrett couldn’t remember when he’d last seen a picture printed out on paper but Chase had five. [Redacted] Garrett remembered cameras flashing then but had avoided them so he wasn’t surprised when he didn’t see himself in either of those. The other three surprised his breath away. All had been taken at a bonfire, he and Chase sitting on the sand and leaning against the logs ringing the fire pit. In two they sat side by side, attention focused somewhere past the camera’s reach, Chase’s arm around Garrett’s shoulders. Garrett took the third from the dresser to examine it more closely. In it, he sat between Chase’s tented knees, leaning against his chest and looking up into his face, one of Chase’s arms draped loosely across Garrett’s body. He couldn’t see it but he knew that hand gripped his waist—he could almost feel it there, the warmth spreading from his side throughout his body. The flames painted lovely colors across their faces as they gazed at each other.

A new opening six for #RainbowSnippets

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagHola Snippetteers and welcome!

I’m sharing from a new story today, the one that will hopefully become BH#6–the last book in my Buchanan House series. Which might explain why i’ve been stalling working on it. I’ve loved writing this series and don’t really want it to be over (even if it will be nice to write something completely different).

Here are the first six lines. Hopefully posting them will help light a fire under me to get this story finished before deadline. It has a lot of heavy lifting to do where the series is concerned. 🙂

Chase watched as more figures appeared behind the mourners standing around the mouth of the open grave, huddled under their umbrellas. The new group wasn’t dressed for the weather, they wore shorts and sandals, their hair hanging in long unruly strings and obscuring their faces. He found it harder and harder to breathe, and to act like he wasn’t watching.

Garrett might stop drawing if he felt everyone’s attention on him and Chase didn’t want that to happen. The plain brown paper covering the table at Brewfest could use more than the standard “X Loves Y” and “Kilroy Was Here” type of graffiti but the real reason was that he loved to watch Garrett work. Even when his work veered into dark places as it was obviously doing.
