A steamy snippet!

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagI think I’ve recovered from walking and waiting on sheets of ice for two hours last night, so I’m going to post my last snippet from Holiday Weekend.

Why the last? Because next Friday—Dec. 16—is release day! Once Holiday Weekend has been released into the wild I’ll give those guys a rest (plus, including tour excerpts, I’ve reached the publisher’s word count limit and can’t share anything more).

This snippet doesn’t need much of an introduction;  the guys are at Ryan’s place and it’s morning. 🙂

Glenn woke about five minutes later and made an incoherent sound. When I turned, he was looking at me. He sat up fast, the sheet and blanket pooling in his lap. “Are you ironing my pants?”

“They were wrinkled.” My face heated, and I half expected Glenn to laugh, but he smiled.

A fragrant little snippet…

holidayweekend_fbprofile_optizimedforfeedHello and welcome to my snippet!

Holiday Weekend has hit the Coming Soon page so now I get to share all the pretties L.C. Chase made for the story!

Next week is Thanksgiving here in the US so today’s snippet takes place very early on Thanksgiving morning. It’s from Ryan’s POV; he and Glenn are volunteering. Larry is coordinating the meal prep, and has just asked Ryan to make the pies. I think that’s all you really need to know for this one.

Larry dumped most of the contents of a large bag of flour into the bowl of a mixer with a fragrant yeast mixture in it. “All four or one at a time. It’s your show, kid.”

“Why do you think I can—”

“Because you didn’t say you can’t.” Larry winked and pulled the bowl off the stand and into his arms. He started stirring with a thick wooden spoon, muscles bulging as he worked.

holidayweekend_fbprofile_optizimedforfeedHoliday Weekend, Buchanan House: Book Five

Ryan Orchard moved from small-town Idaho to Portland almost two years ago and still feels like a hick. When Paulie Nesbitt dumped him, he wasn’t even surprised. Despite losing twenty-five pounds since then, Ryan’s confidence is nonexistent and his life has stalled. Not only is he convinced the career he wants is beyond his reach, he’s given up on relationships. A new job at a familiar restaurant—and his gorgeous coworker—could be just what Ryan needs to believe in himself again.

Glenn Hernandez might be the only nineteen-year-old in Portland who dreads his days off. Between his horrible housing situation and the ever-present temptation to crawl back into the bottle, Glenn prefers to keep busy. He volunteers at the Elliott Foundation House, a homeless shelter helping LGBTQ sex workers. As an alum of the shelter, Glenn finds it hard to leave his past behind. But when the new server at the trendy restaurant where he works catches Glenn’s eye and works his way into his heart, Glenn finally has a reason to start a new life.

Two reveals…

holidayweekend_fbbanner_dsp

Hello and Happy Friday!

Today Holiday Weekend, Buchanan House: Book Five hit the Coming Soon page at Dreamspinner. My cover reveal is over at MM Good Book Reviews~check it out here and enter the giveaway!

Also, I have an announcement. You may already know this if you’ve subscribed to my newsletter, but I’m changing my name. Holiday Weekend will probably be the last book published under the name Charley Descoteaux.

jpg-logoI’ll still be around, still writing LGBTQIA+ fiction, under the name Charli Coty.

In December I’ll kick things off with the second edition of one of my favorite short stories—Toy Run—under the new name. My first original work as Mx. Coty will be out early next year from NineStar Press.

The Descoteaux pen name will be around until at least 2021 due to existing contracts so the phasing-out will be gradual, but it’s time for a change. Hopefully the change will be easy—Coty is much easier to spell, so there’s that! 🙂

I plan to send out my newsletter at least once per quarter, but hopefully I’ll have fun things to share and give away a little more often than that. If you’d like to subscribe, please sign up here.

A six sentence snippet…

RSMMmedHola Snippetteers!

Hope you’re having a great day, where ever you are! This weekend I’ve finished proofing the holiday story (ahead of deadline :)) and am working on first edits for an urban fantasy that should be out sometime early next year. Hope you’re having a productive weekend too!

Last week my snippet was over the limit so this week’s is a tiny one to make up for that. It’s from the Christmas story, Holiday Weekend, Buchanan House: Book Five. This is from Ryan’s point of view, during his first date with Glenn.

I couldn’t figure out what was holding me back—if we were in a bar, I would’ve already made some kind of a play. But we weren’t in a bar. We were at an all-ages dance party, and my date was…. I didn’t know how old he was, not for sure. Over eighteen, I guessed. I hoped. Under twenty-one. Probably by more than a month or two.

A fall Holiday snippet!

RSMMmedHola Snippetteers!

Last weekend in Seattle was fun, but it’s also nice to be home and spend a quiet weekend racing frantically toward various deadlines. 😀

Since I have a release date for my next Buchanan House book I’m going  to share a snippet from that story. Here are a few sentences from Holiday Weekend (Buchanan House: Book Five), in Ryan’s point of view. The whole novella will be available December 16!

(The “he” Ryan refers to in the first sentence is Glenn, in case that’s not clear. :))

He seemed to take great pleasure in tormenting me with his steamy looks and innuendo. Awesome.

Two days before Halloween, Glenn cornered me in the alley at the end of our shift. I had taken out the trash, and when I turned to go inside, Glenn was leaning in the doorway.

“What are you doing for Halloween?”

Damn, even that sounded naughty. “Nothing.”

“You feel like changing those plans?” Glenn pushed off from the doorjamb and stepped out into the alley. “How do you feel about zombies?”

A little shameless flirting…

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagHola Snippetteers and welcome!

Hope you’re all staying cool (or warm, depending on where you are :)). Today’s snippet is from BH#5 again, a few lines after last week’s. We’re still in Ryan’s POV. The head chef has just arrived to work (late) and warned that the specials will be different due to supply issues. Not big news to Ryan since it’s his first day on the job, but Glenn has an opinion–as he does about everything.

Please squint when you read so the unedited nature of this snippet won’t hurt your eyes. 🙂

“Again?” Glenn sounded annoyed, but when I looked at him he winked. “Don’t worry, I’ll show the new guy the ropes.”

“Ryan has as much experience as you do, Glenn. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

“I’m sure he will be.” Glenn shot a long, appreciative look my way. “But I’ll still show him where everything is.”

Flustered, I gulped, and by the way Glenn’s shoulders shook he must’ve heard.

Deeper and slower…

1RainbowSnippetsBiFlagHola Snippetteers and welcome!

Now that my two heroes in BH#5 have been introduced here’s a snippet from their first one-on-one interaction. We’re in Ryan’s POV and he’s just reported for his first day at his new job.

The usual warnings apply. Un-edited material ahead. 😉

I reported to Puddle Jumper bright and early and found Glenn waiting outside the front door. He’d been leaning in the doorway, staring at the ground between his black shoes, wearing a serious or maybe even sad expression. As soon as he saw me he stood away from the building and the grin that had grabbed me right in the gut two weeks before did it again.

“Hey. Ryan, right?”

“Good morning.” I felt ridiculous. I’d used the voice I used to hide behind at home—deeper and slower than the one I considered my real voice.
