Hello lovelies and Happy New Year!
Welcome to my first Rainbow Snippet of 2016. After you read (and maybe leave a comment) don’t forget to click the link to visit the Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook. You’ll find more links to great LGBTQ+ fiction, and maybe a new-to-you story or author.
If you’ve been to my place before you might notice I’ve done some redecorating. My upcoming release, Torque, is the reason—and also the story I’m snippeting from today. First the snippet, then the explanation. Here is the first paragraph of Chapter One; it’s a little more than 6 sentences, but you can stop there if you want to. 🙂
Mick crossed City Dump Road and figured he was in the right place. He’d been driving most of the night, wandering steadily north and west after leaving downtown Portland. He’d almost driven through Portland and out the other side, looking for a place that might pay him in cash. And a place where it wouldn’t matter if the Bug quit on him. She’d left him stranded a time or two on the way north, but she’d been chugging away since 1972 so it wasn’t unexpected. That was one thing Mick could handle: mechanical problems. The old girl would need a lot of help to get all the way to Alaska. No reason to hurry, though. Nobody waited up there for him to pull into their driveway. Nobody waited for him to call and say, “I made Oregon fine, how are things up there?”
Thanks for reading!
I might go back to posting from Kyle’s story next week, because I still need encouragement to meet that deadline. 🙂 I couldn’t sit on my colorful new logo any longer! In Torque one of the love interests identifies as female so I that means i can’t use my old banners anymore – Regular Guys. Hot Romance. – even though I really liked them. The lovely AJ Corza outdid herself again and made the lovely rainbow rose banners i’ve plastered all over my webspaces. The dirty diamond plate-background is for Bell’s Auto Wrecking, where most of Torque takes place.
Thanks for making it this far! Don’t forget to head back to Rainbow Snippets group to enjoy more LGBTQ+ fiction!
Torque is available for pre-order through ARe and AMZ. Release day is February 23, 2016.
Sometimes letting things get complicated is the best way to figure it all out.
Mick Randall is on the run, from the biker culture he grew up in and his impossible vision of love. Alaska should be far enough to escape his old life—until he rolls into a wrecking yard and gets lost in a pair of pale, bottle-green eyes.
Scotty Bell has spent years learning to channel his fiery temper into the heat of a welding torch. His sexual heat has always been slower to ignite, but one look at Mick rouses confusion alongside desire. In all his life, he’s only been attracted to one other person—his best friend, Mercy Taylor.
Mick lands a temporary job at the yard, and finds an uneasy crash pad at Scotty’s place…where the ragged ends of his emotions get tangled up in Scotty and Mercy’s relationship.
But when Mick hears a Harley engine from his past bearing down on him, his first instinct is to go back to the half-life he’d been living. Lest his secrets destroy the only two people who’ve ever made him feel whole.
Warning: Contains references to abuse, subversive ideas about sexual identity and gender expression, and a free-range bisexual on a mission.
What a lonely journey. I get the feeling there’s no one behind him waiting to know he made it safely, either.
Thanks for commenting, PT. You’d be right about that…sort of. 😉
Sounds like an intriguing story. I look forward to reading it. Thanks for the snippet.
Thanks, ashalka212! 🙂
Nice snippet. I love that he’s driving a Bug, one of my favourite cars 🙂
Thanks, Louise! Actually, the story started because of a beat-up old VW Bug i kept seeing in the parking lot at school in 2012-2013. I love them too! 🙂
Oh I’m going to want to read this one when it’s out, for sure! Sounds like an amazing journey with some really interesting characters.
Thanks, Layla! This is one of those stories that took me by surprise, in a good way. I still love it, even after three hardcore rounds of edits. 🙂
The book sounds amazing.
Thanks, Laurie! ❤
I’m curious to know why Alaska and why so lonely. It sounds like an interesting story
Thanks, Jana! 🙂
I love the contrast here between the character’s pragmatism about his life and the glimpses of loneliness between the lines 🙂
Thrifty, I like it. I also like the laconic tone. Mick seems the type to roll with the punches.
He sounds lonely. I hope he finds what he’s looking for.
Happy new year! and this sounds really intriguing, I get a sense of the person he is just from this snippet 🙂
I’ve liked a vehicle having a presence of its own since I started reading the Dresden Files, and I like it here, too. It tells how lonely he is, though, poor guy. I look forward to finding out more!
