A new WIP for #RainbowSnippets

511001645Hello and Happy Holidays, snippet lovers!

Welcome to my Rainbow Snippets post. In case you haven’t heard, RS is a group on Facebook where authors and bloggers get together on the weekends to share six sentences of fiction or a book recommendation. You’re officially invited to become a member of the group, to post or to read the weekly snippets, or both. It’s a laid-back group (it runs on West Coast US time, so it kind of has to be ;))–members leave links to their snippets on the pinned post and everyone hops around reading when they’re able.

This week i’m posting from a new story because it’s on deadline and i need the encouragement. 🙂 If accepted this will be the third book in my Buchanan House series (technically the 4th, but more on that later), in which Kyle Shimoda gets tortured for about 200 pages on his quest to find someone nice and settle down. These are the first six sentences, unedited and rife with creative punctuation, so please squint a little while you’re reading.

Kyle reminded himself for the tenth time (at least) that he stood graveside at a stranger’s funeral for Paulie. Even though the mere thought of a funeral made his skin crawl, if Paulie needed an escort Kyle would push his own feelings aside and be there for him.

Dwelling on that felt better than the knowledge that attending a funeral was better than what he would’ve been doing otherwise—playing second fiddle at Puddle Jumper or dancing with any man who didn’t say no and hoping he wouldn’t turn out to be another dead end. Not that Kyle would be dancing and drinking in the middle of the day. His life had been reduced to work and sleep, with increasingly smaller portions of fun sprinkled in.

Valentine’s Day was last weekend; get over it already.

Thanks for reading!

To find links to more snippets, visit the Rainbow Snippets FB Group. It’s a public group and everyone is welcome to join. Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Intriguing. He sounds like he needs something (or someone!) to come along and fill his life with excitement. I can’t help wondering who the funeral is for and how it’s going to play into the story.

      • I’m really enjoying it. I used to be in a very active critique group, but I just don’t have the time to offer detailed con crit anymore. Six sentences at a time are perfect, though XD

        • That’s exactly the way i feel about it. ❤ I love being in a crit group, but even if i could find another one, i don't have the time to do it right. We can encourage each other a few sentences a week. 🙂
