Happy Caturday! Tonight we have to give back that hour we borrowed in Autumn, so we all have an excuse to be cranky next week.
This week’s snippet is from my Love’s Landscapes story, tentatively titled Isn’t it Wonderful. Our hero, Theo, is at a friend’s Pearl District coffeehouse for open mic night and he’s been stood up. (Theo, not the friend.)
Before the evening was over I did something jerky, something I wouldn’t want anyone to know I’d done. I flirted with a guy who hadn’t been stood up. A guy who came in with someone and spent a good hour just gazing at him. Everyone in the room could see they were in love, but I couldn’t help it. I told myself I just wanted to flirt a little, to boost my crushed ego, but that wasn’t it. I wanted to break something.
“Hey, Theo, what’re you doing with that?”
I looked where Ben was looking, at the ceramic mug in my hand, and shrugged.
Thanks for reading!
Don’t forget to hop around and check out more snippets! You know the drill, starting Saturday chase the rainbow with Seductive Studs & Sirens, and beginning on Sundays there’s also Weekend Writing Warriors and Snippet Sunday!
I think someone if getting a little catty? Can’t wait to read more.
Evelise
Yep, secretly catty. Thanks for commenting, Evelise. 🙂
Wow – you are rocking this one already Charley! Knowing the photo and the prompt, I’m extremely impressed just from this little snippet. I haven’t even gotten past the MC character names yet *snort*
Aww, thanks! Theo’s a chatty guy so far. I’m sure your guys will speak up too! 🙂

I love these sentences, and I love that they’re spoken by the protagonist. This is an awesome snippet, Charley.
Thanks, Sarah! I was a little worried Theo wouldn’t be very sympathetic, but maybe that’s not a problem. 🙂
It’s really not.
We’ve all been there. As long as he doesn’t stay there, we’ll sympathize. 🙂
Well it takes two to flirt so apparently the other person flirted back? Interesting snippet, would be curious to know more about Theo and what happens next.
Hmm, not always (if my RL is any indication), but usually. Thanks for commenting, Veronica! 🙂
I love the “I wanted to break something” and then the cut to the ceramic mug. Are its days numbered?
*lol* We’ll see!
Thanks for visiting, Paula. 🙂
So, is he flirting back?
Great clip, Charley!
