Not exactly, but close enough.
I’ve enjoyed so many free stories written for the Goodreads MM Romance Group’s annual “Don’t Read in the Closet” events and this year I took the plunge and grabbed a prompt! I almost had the ovaries to do it last year, but not quite. Last year I didn’t think I could write a good story in so short a time. If my first edits for Not the Doctor are any indication, that’s not really a problem. 🙂
I was incredibly lucky and managed to claim Jenna Jones’ prompt and I’ve written over 3,000 words since yesterday afternoon. I’m excited to share it with everyone—I hope you’ll all help me make it great, 8 sentences at a time.
The picture Jenna posted is of the adorable actor Sebastian Stan (if he or any of his people want me to take this down, I’ll be happy to).
Dear Author,
Please use this excerpt as a prompt:
O’ God it’s wonderful
to get out of bed
and drink too much coffee
and smoke too many cigarettes
and love you so much
— from “Steps” by Frank O’Hara
Any setting or time period. A slice-of-life story would suit me fine. No BSDM, violence, mpreg, or shifters, please.
Thank you,
Jenna
Congratz on the promt!! That sounds awesome!
I’ve also had the guts to grab one this year. Previous years I was too late each time to get one. Now I’ve got one about cute gamer dudes 😉
Thanks, Kia, and congrats on grabbing a good one yourself! Cute gamer dudes? Sounds cool! 🙂
😀 well done. I’d love to have a bash at it but the inspiring pictures usually have a demand for explicit rumpy pumpy with them. That’s a lovely photo. What eyes!
Thanks, Elin! You’re right, they usually do ask for the heat, but I’ve seen a couple this year asking for sweet…. Just sayin’ (and enabling). 🙂
Yay! Wow you got a good one 🙂 So open-ended, you could really have fun with it. I am looking forward to reading what you come up with. 3000 words already? Man, you are good!
Mine is going to be a challenge (for me at least), and I am already doubting myself… but maybe we can cheer each other on.
Thanks, Amelia–I’m having a lot of fun with it so far.
Don’t doubt yourself! The prompt spoke to you or you wouldn’t have braved the hoards to claim it. I’m happy to cheer you on–I love Don’t Read in the Closet and am looking forward to all the stories. Maybe you’d like to join our LGBT snippet sharing group (Seductive Studs & Sirens) to get weekly encouragement from a larger cheering section! 🙂
